David Singletary and Alvin Villeneuve were both life-long residents of Ascension Parish and dedicated funeral professionals; both had worked for a number of funeral homes and corporate funeral locations. In 2006, they partnered and started a transportation service under the name A&D Transportation. With the consolidation of family-owned funeral homes by corporations, they recognized a need to offer affordable funeral services to families. In response to the demand, they opened Church Funeral Services and Crematory in St. Amant in 2009. The name 'Church' was chosen because all the funeral services were performed at the family's place of worship or venue. Around this time, cremations started to gain popularity, so Singletary and Villeneuve established their own crematory while other funeral homes usually outsourced this service. By providing quality services at an affordable price, the business took off. In 2011, they opened an arrangement office in Baton Rouge and, in 2013, an office in Walker. In November of 2016, Alvin passed away, and David was ready to retire and spend time with his family. On January 1, 2017, Church Funeral Services and Crematory completed a merger with Silver Lining Funeral Services. Silver Lining is operated by the Clark brothers, Greg and Mike Clark. They are originally from Winnsboro LA, and Mike has been an employee of Church since 2014. With a passion for providing exceptional service at an affordable price, the Clarks continue the family-focused business plan that was put in place by the founders.
